JOB SUMMARY
The Wastewater Maintenance Technician will be responsible for safe, efficient, and effective operation and maintenance of water/wastewater treatment facilities; as well as, distribution systems, collection systems and pumping facilities. This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining water quality, protecting public health, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and operate wastewater treatment system(s)
Assist with preparing wastes in Plant for waste shipments
Load and unload truck for waste shipments
Conduct quarterly visual inspections per Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan
Assist with quarterly sample collection from catch basins.
Assist with unloading full/empty totes and labelling them appropriately.
Transport recyclables and rubbish to the outside dumpster as needed.
Empty all shell material garbage cans on a routine schedule or as requested by the department.
Maintain outside areas including those around ceramic and trash roll-offs, scrap metal bin, collection drums of dust collectors, trench drains, and shipping/receiving docks keeping them free of debris, dust, and other sources of non-stormwater discharges.
Perform preventive maintenance and machine repair when assigned.
Complete safety checklist on all work.
Follow lock-out, tag out procedures.
Attend annual RCRA and DOT training and other training as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma.
Experience: Ability to use hand tools. Manufacturing experience desired.
Certifications/Licenses: Tow Motor Training; will also be certified in DOT/RCRA and Spill Response.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of electrical testing equipment. Use of standard mechanical hand tools. Good interpersonal skills. Good follow-up skills. Ability to operate mobile maintenance equipment: forklift, scissor lift, man lift. Ability to learn new skills. Ability to interact with a wide variety of people. Self-control. Persistence. Detail orientation. Curiosity about new products and processes. Good judgment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Working Environment: Tow motor usage - on and off - loading and unloading trucks - transferring chemicals.
Required PPE: Check for required PPE in areas you may be working in and safety data sheets for other chemicals that may apply to the task at hand.
Safety Glasses: Needed in all areas of the plant. Face shield and safety glasses are required when transferring chemicals from chemical tanks into totes and when manually neutralizing acids and bases.
Safety toe shoes: Needed in all areas of the plant. PVC steel toe boots when working in areas with chemicals on the floor
Chemical resistant gloves when working with aggressive chemicals such as concentrated detergents, acids, bases, and solvent.
Electrically insulated rubber gloves and leather protectors required when performing work on live electrical components.
