Application Architect (Information Technology)

Amerisure is currently recruiting for an Application Architect that can do a 2-day hybrid approach onsite in our Farmington Hills office. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set. 

Summary Statement

The Application Architect accelerates the modernization and standardization of software development and delivery capabilities within Amerisure. This role provides architectural guidance for the full software development lifecycle, including software design, development, testing, implementation, application rationalization, and future development platform strategies.  

Essential Tasks/Major Duties

  • Collaborate with business partners to enhance the application development strategy, ensuring business and technology plans are aligned with strategic initiatives.
  • Design and maintain application reference architectures, including an enterprise application model, that captures the organization's applications ecosystem.
  • Provide guidance on leveraging existing and emerging technologies to evolve the application environment and support business strategies.
  • Design and implement common architecture standards, practices, and patterns to improve application design, performance, efficiency, and security.
  • Participate in design, code, and solution reviews to ensure adherence to architectural standards and consistency with the organization's goals.
  • Mentor IT professionals, providing architectural consulting expertise and technical direction to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Advocate for architectural visions to senior leadership, building consensus, securing prioritization, and ensuring proper funding for key initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or comparable years of experience.
  • 10 years of experience designing technical solutions, with at least 5 years specializing in application architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and engineer complex cross-domain technical solutions with strong security, performance, stability, and capacity. 
  • 3 years of experience with AWS or Azure Cloud Native application development.
  • Demonstrated Subject Matter Expertise (SME) level experience and knowledge of multiple software development platforms, tools, and data/database structures, concepts, and practices. 
  • 2 years of hands-on expertise with streaming ingestion and analytics platforms (e.g., Kafka, Spark, SMS, MQ).
  • 3 years' experience of secure development practices and patterns including OWASP Top 10, securing APIs, Data-At-Rest, Data-In-Transit and thorough sanitizing logs and access files. 
  • Experience in one or more systems development life cycle methodologies, including those that support agile development and/or scaled agile development models. 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and achieve results through peer collaboration.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead discussions, make presentations, and interact effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Background in the insurance or financial services industry, preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise-level data governance frameworks and best practices, preferred.
