Assistant Store Director (Wedge Lyndale) (Manufacturing)



Position Purpose:
The Assistant Store Director supports the Store Director in ensuring the smooth daily operations of Wedge Co-op Lyndale. This role is responsible for assisting with customer service leadership, staff oversight, facilities coordination, and overall store performance. The Assistant Store Director provides coverage and operational continuity as needed, helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and supports key administrative, safety, and facilities tasks. They play a vital role in supporting Managers on Duty (MODs), Multi-Department Clerks (MDCs), and storewide systems.

Direct Reports:
Managers on Duty, Multi Department Clerks, Housekeeping Staff

Key Responsibilities
Store Operations
Ensure that every customer who visits Wedge Co-op Lyndale feels welcome and has an exceptional shopping experience.
Provide a strong leadership presence in the store.
Assist the Store Director in managing day-to-day store functions.
Provide MOD coverage as needed, including evenings and weekends.
Step in to support or temporarily lead departments when managers are absent.
Step in to temporarily oversee store operations when Store Director is absent.
Monitor sales, manage budgets, and meet financial targets.
Assist with strategic and tactical plan development and execution.
Other duties as assigned by Co-op Leadership.

Team Leadership
Manage MOD and MDC teams, including hiring, training, scheduling, and development.
Assist Department Leadership in achievement of sales, margin, and labor goals.
Set clear expectations and maintain accountability within the MOD/MDC team.
Help develop, maintain, and implement the MOD Handbook and related guidelines.
Assist Store Director with leadership, development, and coaching of Lyndale employees.

Facilities & Maintenance
Oversee and document routine facilities maintenance.
Troubleshoot operational and maintenance issues and coordinate repairs.
Assist with coordination and supervision of all internal and external facilities and maintenance activities.
Assist with urgent or overnight facilities issues.

Vendor & Contract Support
Review service contracts and assist in tracking vendor compliance.
Support onboarding and coordination with new vendors.

Safety & Security
Help maintain a safe and secure shopping and working environment.
Support MODs and the Store Director in emergency and incident response.
Enforce health, safety, and sanitation standards in all departments.
Assist in maintaining and improving store safety procedures and policies.
Help manage alarm codes, key distribution, and store access protocols.

Qualifications & Skills
5+ years supervisory and retail management experience.
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage shifting responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Experience coordinating facilities and vendor services preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and respond to after-hours needs.
Familiarity with co-op principles and natural foods preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed.
Ensure hiring supports TCCP goals for diversity and inclusion.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.
Regular reaching, bending, and manual tasks.
Capacity to work indoors and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions.
