Architectural Historian (Remote) (Finance)



The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a qualified and motivated Architectural Historian to join our Cultural Resources team. The selected candidate will support a variety of projects, primarily in California, with the potential for work in other U.S. states. This is a remote position with frequent field travel required.

The successful applicant will conduct architectural resource surveys, research, and technical reporting in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Work will be completed under the direction of a Lead Architectural Historian or Principal Investigator.

Location : Remote (Travel to project sites in California and other states required)

Your Role:

  • Conduct architectural resource field surveys and collect GIS data.
  • Identify architectural styles, estimate construction dates, and evaluate historic significance.
  • Conduct archival and online property research.
  • Prepare detailed architectural resource descriptions and place them in regional historic context.
  • Make recommendations on National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility and assess project effects on historic properties.
  • Prepare CEQA and Section 106 technical documentation and reports.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and meet project deadlines.
  • Travel to project sites, often in remote or rugged terrain.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards (36 CFR Part 61) for Architectural History or Historic Architecture.
  • Master's degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California history and architecture.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to produce timely, high-quality technical reports and cultural resource forms.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively for fieldwork.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged terrain.

Preferred :

  • Experience with CEQA compliance and familiarity with Section 106 processes.
  • Background in historic architecture or preservation.
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and ArcGIS/ArcMap Pro.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $28.00 - $32.00 hour

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
