The Accountant is responsible for supporting general accounting, financial reporting, and analysis activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. The role will mainly support the centralized and shared service activities of MacLean-Fogg's corporate division. This role involves supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions, as well as maintaining the general ledger and preparing financial reports. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams across the corporate division to support audits, budgeting, and process improvement initiatives while adhering to accounting standards and organizational policies.

Job Details

  • Position Type: Full time
  • Pay Range: $55K- $70K
  • Work Location: Hybrid (4 days onsite)

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with a senior accountant to manage various centralized processes including payroll, fixed assets, leases, intangibles, and intercompany by ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions.
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger and related accounting records for the corporate division, ensuring data integrity and alignment with accounting principles and organizational policies.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations on assigned balance sheet accounts, bank accounts, and other financial data, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis data for the various corporate departments. This would include tracking and analyzing expenses, ensuring alignment with budget goals and identifying areas for cost control and optimization.
  • Assist the Treasury department with daily cash activities, including making borrowing decisions and compiling payment reports for approval.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all tasks.
  • Support preparation of accurate financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and addressing audit findings effectively.
  • Leverage accounting software and ERP systems to streamline workflows and improve data accuracy and reporting capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization within the accounting function, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to learn new accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial principles.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare concise reports.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and other departments.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Education: Bachelor's
  • Experience: 0-4 years of accounting experience

Preferred

  • Certifications: CPA, CMA, or another related certification.
