Role Summary
The Director of Wholesaler Contract Management brings deep expertise in wholesaler contracting within the post-acute and long-term care pharmacy supply chain, with a focus on driving strategic value, operational excellence and financial performance. This role is accountable for delivering measurable outcomes, including a 10% improvement in value capture, a 15% reduction in contract leakage, and a 5% decrease in administrative costs through effective contract strategies, cross-functional collaboration, and process optimization. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading the development, negotiation, and management of complex wholesaler and distributor contracts specifically SOPs and SLAs. This role is critical to maximizing value, ensuring compliance, and minimizing slippage across MHA's wholesaler portfolio, directly supporting our mission to deliver cost-effective, high-quality solutions for our members.
What You'll Be Doing
Contract Strategy & Negotiation
· Lead negotiations and structure contracts with wholesalers and distributors securing favorable Standard Operating Procedures, Service Level Agreement, and other related business terms for MHA's members.
· Ensure contract terms align with GPO objectives, achieving a 10% improvement value capture for our membership and MHA.
· Design and implement contract frameworks, including Member onboarding, contract management and data exchange, to protect margins and mitigate financial risk.
· Build and manage supplier partnerships to ensure contract adherence, resolve discrepancies, and identify future collaboration opportunities.
Contract Lifecycle Management & Financial Optimization
· Direct contract lifecycle, including implementation, monitoring and renewal, to minimize leakage and slippage by 15%.
· Use analytics to audit chargebacks, recover margins, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
· Develop and maintain contract performance dashboards to provide real-time insights to savings, compliance, contract efficiency, and financial impact.
· Utilize analytical tools to conduct root cause analysis and identify opportunities for contract optimization.
Operational Excellence & Innovation
· Implement process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma to streamline contract administration processes and improve contract performance
· Support the development of policies and procedures to enhance contract operations and compliance with healthcare regulations.
· Ensure timely and accurate payment fees, maintaining alignment between manufacturers, distributors, and members.
· Drive negotiations with performance insights, and proactive strategies to protect or improve profitability
· Explore innovative tools, such as agentic AI platforms, to automate contract workflows and reduce administrative costs by 5% within the first year.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
· Represent MHA in discussions with external partners, fostering trust and collaboration to drive long-term value.
· Engage with MHA member pharmacies to understand their needs and advocate for solutions that enhance their purchasing power.
· Work closely with the GPO Analytics, Insights and Operations team to align contracting strategies with organizational goals.
· Partner with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and member services, to support rapid organizational growth.
· Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure contracts meet regulatory requirements (e.g., Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and GPO safe harbor provisions).
Requirements:
· BA/BS in business, healthcare administration, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA) preferred.
· 10 years of experience in contract negotiation and management, with at least 5 years in wholesaler, distributor, pharmaceutical or healthcare GPO settings.
· Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills with wholesalers, distributors or pharmaceutical manufacturers
· Strong understanding of the wholesaler's role within the post-acute supply chain and specifically within long-term care pharmacy operations
· Advanced Business acumen in wholesaler operations
· Advanced knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements, including GPO regulations and safe harbor provisions.
· Analytical mindset with experience in data reconciliation, performance measurement, and root cause analysis.
· Proficiency in contract management software and data analytics tools; experience with AI-driven tools (e.g., AutoGPT, OpenAI).
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail.
· Strategic thinker with strong organizational and project management skills.
· Demonstrated leadership experience influencing cross-functional teams and driving measurable results
