Position Summary:
Dr. Matt McCary's research group in the Department of BioSciences is looking to hire a Research Technician I with a background in horticulture, botany, ecology, biology, or related field. Dr. McCary's research investigates how plant traits and environmental changes shape biodiversity and ecosystem processes.
This is a one-year term-limited position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding based on performance and funding.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and independent technician who is passionate about plant care and experimental research. The ideal candidate will be responsible for growing and maintaining plants in both greenhouse and field settings, assisting with experimental setup and maintenance, and helping troubleshoot plant growth issues using best horticultural practices, including growing plants from seed. The position also involves routine maintenance of field sites and lab equipment, and occasional driving to remote research locations.
The successful candidate should have experience growing plants, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
Workplace Requirements:
Anticipate hourly salary: $18. This is a full-time non-exempt (hourly) position.
On campus position: This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at Rice University or remote research locations. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
This position is funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.
