Job Description

Summary/objective
A Field Supervisor will oversee all phases of a field project.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Approves timecards and requests for time off.
Prepares work schedules and assignments.
Communicates and enforces safety procedures and site rules.

Essential functions

Able to Operate and train employees in the use of heavy forestry equipment (e.g. Skidder, Fellar Buncher, Log Loader, Harvester, Delimber, Masticator, Tracked Skidder, Dozer, Excavator, Chipper) as appropriate for each project.

· Develops a schedule and cost-effective plan for completion of an assigned project.
· Collaborates with other staff to create preconstruction estimates and budgets for materials and labor.
· Coordinates and schedules the work activities of tradespeople, professionals, and laborers, communicating to and via project foreperson to deliver instructions and project assignments as appropriate.
· Regularly inspects work for quality and timeliness; prepares and provides progress reports to owners and managers; makes recommendations for necessary modifications.
· Ensures specifications and regulations outlined in project and/or engineering plans are followed.
· Obtains required permits and licenses; executes construction contracts according to terms of agreement.
· Monitors budget throughout the project and communicates variances as they occur.
· Maintains records related to costs and inventory.
· Addresses any safety violations or other deficiencies.
· Collaborates with union representatives to answer questions and clarify procedures if applicable.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
· Have good judgement regarding site, terrain and weather conditions for safe equipment operation.

Must have substantial mechanical intelligence and experience trouble shooting and repairing small engines, heavy equipment maintenance and/or vehicle maintenance including.
Perform multiple inspections throughout the day on equipment to check and maintain proper fluid levels, performance of the equipment, etc., using the company checklist as a guideline.
Reports equipment needs and hazards to Operations Manager.
Continuous safety checks on the equipment (seat belt, fire extinguisher, lights, etc.) to ensure equipment is working properly and safely.
Survey, evaluate and take measures to ensure work area is safe from any dangers (powerlines, utilities, co-workers, etc.)
Inspect all attachments to the machinery to ensure that they are operational and take the appropriate steps to correct.
Follow work order instructions from Operations Manager.
Ensures that the job site is left in safe condition.
Maintains good housekeeping on equipment.
Operates a chainsaw or other equipment when needed.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions; communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public effectively.
Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures and OSHA regulations.
Able to comply with all company policies and procedures.
Ability to travel and work overtime when required.
Must have a strong work ethic.
Other duties as assigned.

· Work environment

All work is performed outside in all types of various weather (i.e. heat, cold, wind, sun and inclement weather, etc.)

Exposure to all elements of nature on a regular basis.
Exposure to loud noise.
Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc.

Physical demands: The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Able to push and pull with hands, arms, and feet repetitively.
Must have good visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sight and sounds in a hazardous construction environment.
Able to push, pull, climb, sit and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job.
Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable.
Ability to work around loud noises.
Coordination between hands, eyes, feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Must be able to work overtime as requested.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel required

Position travels outside the local area but usually within Northern California up to 30% of the time.

Required education and experience

2-5 years' experience running Heavy Machinery.
2-5 years' experience in supervision role and responsibility.

Preferred education and experience

High School education or equivalent (Preferred)
A job for which military experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.
Forestry: 1 year (Preferred)
Heavy equipment operator: 3 years (Preferred)
Mechanical Knowledge: 2 years (Preferred)

Additional eligibility requirements:

Must have a valid driver's license. A commercial Driver's License may be required Class A.
Clean Driving Record: 5 years (Required).
Must pass pre-employment Drug Screen.
