Ready Mix Manager

Position Overview

This is a skilled position requiring the individual to manage a variety of functions related to the field operations, and administrative functions of the ready-mix Department in our Pueblo, Canon City and southeastern Colorado locations. Individual should have working knowledge of ready-mix concrete application, customer relations, mix design, inventory management, production, delivery and testing. This position requires daily planning of both manpower and equipment so as to obtain maximum utilization. Position reports to the OpCo General Manager with a dotted line to Sales Manager.

Wage Ranges from $125k to $140k, dependent upon experience

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • General Duties:
    • Positive attitude that promotes SAFETY, quality, and productivity.
    • Lead safety meetings
    • Must be customer service oriented, both internally and externally.
    • Perform internal audits - Life Saving Rules safety and inventory.
    • Assure all company policies and procedures are strictly observed.
    • Assure adequate staffing levels and perform annual talent reviews of employees.
    • Assure that daily, weekly and monthly paperwork is turned in correct and promptly.
    • Assure inventories are maintained correctly, including ordering new product, transferring products from plant to plant.
    • Other duties as assigned per supervisor.

  • Ready Mix Operations:
    • Oversee the daily operations, production of ready-mix concrete, scheduling of equipment, and manpower.
    • Interface daily with plant operator to ascertain their needs and problems.
    • Preform or assist with plant repair, coordinate with mobile maintenance and researching solutions for problems.
    • Maximize efficient utilization of the ready-mix delivery fleet - safe, timely, delivery.
    • Interface daily with quality control to ensure that the produced mix is meeting design.
    • Inspect or have job site inspected to ensure safe delivery of concrete.
    • Interface daily with customers to ensure they are receiving the ordered product.
    • Assure that Company's ready-mix operations are conducted according to highest standards in regard to safety performance, customer relations/expectations, employee relations, environmental, quality, ethical standards, community relations, production levels, and profitability expectations.
    • Perform sampling, testing and reporting procedures according to established ASTM Procedures, having the ability to test RMC material samples and recording test results in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Be able to inspect, analyze, and diagnose malfunctions in trucking equipment.
    • Ability to perform project test procedures relative to individual levels of certification in testing RMC materials, hold ACI Field Level I Certification.
    • May have to deliver concrete from time to time.
    • Position requires approximately 70% travel in the market areas of southeastern Colorado including Pueblo, Canon City, Salida, Lamar, La Junta, and Trinidad.

  • Area Sales (Concrete & Aggregates):
    • Confer with plant and quality control personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as procedures, complaints, and problems related to delivery and quality of ready-mix concrete.
    • Make and receive calls from customer.
    • Oversee scale operations and external aggregates sales, work with sales manager.
    • Have a working knowledge of state DOT and governing agency job specifications

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience with a strong background in the ready-mix concrete industry; or equivalent combination or education, experience and training.

Work Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years ready mix concrete related experience.
  • May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agility testing.
  • Ability to travel 70%

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to influence people to work enthusiastically towards goals and performance targets by effectively providing necessary coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Ability to lead and manage change through continuous performance improvement in employee development, quality, safety, and production.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, project specifications, project plans and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and determine whether a given mix design will meet the project requirements, as laid out in the project specifications and plans.
  • Ability to review the results of plastic concrete testing and a given mix design then determine what could have gone wrong in the production.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, and to draw/interpret bar graphs.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Command Batch, Microsoft: Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Networking, Remote Computing

  • Standard Driver's License - Required
  • Commercial Drivers License (Class B) - Required
  • Commercial Driver's License (Class A) - Preferred
  • ACI Field Level I Certification - Required
  • NRMCA Concrete Technologist - Preferred

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs., push 200 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

  • Full wheelbarrow (push/pull) - 123.5 lb. (frequent)
  • Aluminum chute - 28 lb. (occasionally)
  • Steel chute - 55 lb. (occasionally)
  • Cylinders - 5 -35lbs (frequent, bend, lift - floor to waist, lift/stretch waist level to move)
  • Tests at the tailgate - bend, stretch, lift up to 50lbs (loaded air pot)
  • Climb - must be able to climb and lift overhead up to 3 gallons 25-30lbs overhead (occasionally)
  • Slump/Air Test - Required twist, bending at waist (frequently)
