Temporary Library Assistant (Education)
The Library Assistants primary role is to support the mission of the Library by providing assistance to students, teachers and other library users. The role will assist the Faculty Librarians in all aspects of library operations, including supervision of ASK US desk, various clerical and administrative duties and assist with classes and/or programed instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates in the staff duty rotation at the service desk and is responsible for providing exemplary customer service for students, faculty, staff and visitors
Assists students and other patrons in locating and using materials and online resources in the library by answering questions, gathering materials, demonstrating use of equipment and software
Maintains the library collection; includes shelving and shifting books, adding and withdrawing books, deleting eBooks from database as needed, mending and repairing books and assisting with inventory.
Maintains a clean, orderly and attractive library environment
Circulates library materials; includes checking materials in and out, sending overdue announcements and maintain overdue records
Supervises students in Library Work Crew program
Participates in large scale projects such as weeding and stack maintenance under the direction of various faculty librarian project managers
Processes, maintains and weeds the periodical/newspaper collection following established policies and procedures
Covers book jackets and repairs library materials as needed to preserve and keep them in the collection or flags those items for re-order if needed
Generates book plates as needed for collection items following established policies and procedures
Assists Librarians with the promotion and display of new resources to enhance and market the Library resources and spaces
Assists Librarians with class instruction as needed (demonstrating navigation of library site and databases)
Encourage reading for pleasure and the enjoyment of reading by being an active reader
Assist with ordering (books, supplies, etc) and managing credit card statements
Work with and provide basic troubleshooting for technology resources in the library, such as vinyl cutter, laptops, iPad, cameras, microphones, adapters and other audio/video resources
Keeps the library running effectively when a faculty librarian is not present
Monitors students, handles discipline problems, and responds to patrons' needs.
Assist with photocopying, scanning, printing, uploading data
Open or close the library according to procedures
Participate in training as required
Available to assist with other projects as needed
