Job Title: Utility Worker Technician

Working Pattern: Full-time | Location: Walpole, MA

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Bird-Johnson team as a Utility Worker Technician, where you'll play a key role in building high-performance marine propulsion systems that serve the U.S. Navy and commercial vessels around the world. As a Utility Worker Technician , your work directly impacts the performance and safety of propulsion systems used in national defense and advanced commercial vessels . What You Will Be Doing:

As a Utility Worker Technician, you will contribute to several critical manufacturing activities, including:

  • Assisting in inspections of mechanical components with a strong attention to detail
  • Performing touch-up painting of parts prior to assembly or shipping
  • Packaging and crating materials in wooden crates for safe shipment
  • Preparing tools and equipment for Assemblers
  • Supporting various areas of the manufacturing floor as needed - some cleaning or parts on occasion.

This position plays a vital role in our quality control and shipping processes. The work you do ensures integrity, cleanliness, and proper presentation of components before they move into final machining or delivery.

  • Maintain a strong attention to detail in all tasks
  • Produce the expected quantity of work while maximizing efficiency and equipment usage
  • Follow instructions and standard operating procedures precisely
  • Take direction and feedback constructively and professionally
  • Demonstrate a safety-first mindset in handling tools, equipment, and materials
  • Lift and move components weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with support from hoists and forklifts
  • Be flexible and open to cross-training in other manufacturing areas
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively, we are a team-oriented environment, and we're looking for dependable team players
  • Proactively identify potential problems and assist in improving processes

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of experience in a lean or precision manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience in a mechanical role
  • Ability to take direction, follow guidance, and execute work instructions accurately
  • Strong safety-oriented mindset, ability to follow procedures and wear PPE when required.
  • No allergic reactions to chemicals or materials used in job-related tasks
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds with the assistance of an overhead hoist and forklift, training will be provided
  • Willingness and ability to work any shift and overtime as needed
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous learning
  • Due to access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (U-NNPI), this position is restricted to U.S. citizens only (NOFORN). Proof of U.S. citizenship is required (U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, or Naturalization Certificate). Dual citizenship is not permitted.
