Internship - Operations & Environmental (Finance)

This cross-functional internship offers a dynamic opportunity to support plant operations, environmental compliance, and water lab functions. Interns will gain hands-on experience in environmental compliance within a power plant setting, contributing to projects that have a tangible, positive impact. Throughout the program, participants will receive mentorship and guidance from seasoned professionals, helping them grow both technically and professionally. The internship also provides valuable networking opportunities within the environmental sector, fostering connections that can support future career development. Depending on institutional requirements, there may be potential to earn academic credit for participation in the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support plant operations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental projects and programs.
  • Conduct research and data analysis on operational and environmental issues.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and educational materials.
  • Participate in fieldwork, including site assessments and environmental monitoring.
  • Mentor in the power plant water lab department to ensure boiler water quality.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and June 2028
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to participate in fieldwork and outdoor activities.

DETAILS & DURATION OF INTERNSHIP:
  • This internship will report in person to Cohasset, MN
  • This role is anticipated to begin May 2026
  • The internship will be full- time during summer with the possibility of extending to a part- time basis during academic terms up until graduation
  • ALLETE will comply with college requirements
  • Hours and duration are subject to change based on company needs
