Scientific & Regulatory Affairs- Sr. Specialist

The Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Senior Specialist creates and sustains a competitive advantage for Mars Snacking and supports the achievement of its overall business goals by leading regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and execution for projects in North America (US and Canada).

The role leads a variety of regulatory activities related to recipes, finished products, labelling, claims, regulation impact assessments, and overall regulatory compliance in North America. This position proactively partners with cross-functional stakeholders and technical experts to support innovation, renovation, value leadership, horizon scanning to enable growth, protect and achieve business goals.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area, such as food chemistry, nutrition, food science, biology, chemistry, or toxicology. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in scientific and/or regulatory compliance/affairs and/or a related technical area with food products or related product categories (such as food supplements, cosmetics, and natural health products) with proficiency in food law, nutrition policy, and regulatory affairs for North America.
  • Experience working on large-scale regulatory compliance or regulatory affairs projects involving formulas, ingredients, and labelling.
  • Demonstrated track record of working successfully across functions to achieve shared goals; and proven ability to interact cross-functionally at all levels within the organization are required.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Regulatory compliance

  • Responsibility for assuring ingredients, formulas, labelling, artwork and are in full compliance with laws and regulations as well as internal standards and policies
  • Reviews recipes to ensure compliance, adherence to standards of identity and Internal requirements
  • Creates and maintains product legal text (Ingredient statements, nutrition facts panel, allergen declarations)
  • Reviews artwork and labelling material to meet regulatory and legal requirements as well as Internal standards
  • Assures claims are substantiated and in full compliance with laws and regulations and company policies

Regulatory risk assessment and mitigation projects.

  • SRA lead and primary point of contact for brands of responsibility.
  • Provides scientific and regulatory advice for claims, ingredient, recipe and labelling through cross-functional collaboration with Legal, Science & Technology and Quality. Brings solutions in addition to risk assessments
  • Provides scientific and regulatory advice on route to market for new innovations, working with external experts where needed for new categories or channels
  • Escalates key decision points to regional leadership to ensure proper governance
  • Communicates project highlights and key regulatory issues with SRA colleagues for broader team visibility, understanding and learning

SRA infrastructure

  • Executes workstreams in aligning ways of working with stakeholders, building internal capabilities, grounding stakeholders with basic regulatory knowledge, and establishing/reinforcing processes to enable execution
  • Seeks stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement of SRA ways of working and
  • Upskills and develops in new technical areas in regulatory depending on business needs

Proactive SRA activities

  • Maintains up to date knowledge on key developments in food law and policy via newsletter, conference attendance, and participation in professional association.
  • Review of draft and pending external regulatory initiatives to assess potential impact to Mars Wrigley and examined and addressed or opportunities can be generated and materialized and communicates relevant inform stakeholders
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize and drive efficiencies between internal projects and external regulatory pipeline
  • Assists with the preparation and submission of documentation to regulatory agencies and other external bodies for technical advocacy

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits.Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.

The pay range shown is applicable to all locations listed within the job posting:USD 107,071.00 - USD 147,223.00 Apply
