Manager, Quality Assurance I (Finance)



Position Summary:

Manages the quality functions and the Quality Assurance department to ensure the Customer receives 100% quality product 100% of the time. Develops and administers quality system that meets customer requirements through communication with customers, other department managers and suppliers to ensure product and process specifications are met.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create an employee culture that is supportive of the establishment of a world class Health, Safety & Environmental Management System through:
    • Understanding the regulatory requirements, CSA Core HSE requirements, customer requirements, and facility HSE programs relevant to their areas of responsibility.
    • Monitoring the work practices of employees and holding them accountable to the HSE guidelines that have been established.
    • Prompt communication of employee injuries/illnesses and by moving swiftly to proactively eliminate workplace hazards before they cause an incident.
    • Understanding how the processes within their areas of responsibility affect the environment and how any adverse effects can be controlled and/or eliminated.
  • Consult with the HSE Coordinator and gain approval via the CSA Chemical Approval Process prior to bringing new/reformulated raw materials and/or chemical substances onsite.
  • Oversee training and development activities for employees under their supervision including:
    • Employee performance reviews and as applicable employee competency testing
    • As applicable completion of monthly Department Meeting training topics
    • Communication and reemphasis of employee job responsibilities, company policies and work instructions
    • On the job training/demonstration of equipment operation
    • Providing documentation of training to the Training Coordinator for entry into the CSA TrainingWeb
  • Customer Contact:
    • Customer contact for internal/external quality issues
    • Quarantine suspect product when concerns are received.
    • Communicate quality concerns internally.
    • Coordinate and lead 8-D problem solving activities
    • Assure Customer Survey Requirements including Ford Q1 QMS and GM QSB assessments are complete.
    • Provide customer onsite visits as needed
  • Supervision
    • Supervision of the APQP Supervisor/Quality Coordinator/Quality Engineer
    • Supervise Quality Tech's and Backups on the production floor. Schedule, direct, discipline, evaluations and work instructions.
    • Responsible for Receiving Inspection activities and work instructions.
  • Internal Quality
    • Drive quality improvement activities within the plant. Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, and quality plans. Implement quality assurance procedures.
    • Make disposition decisions of internal quality
    • Review, problem solve, and follow up on internal quality concerns/rejects on a daily basis.
    • Sort Evaluation - Maintain, monitor, evaluate, and distribute sort lists. Evaluate fallout of product and remove/add to sort as needed.
  • Monthly Reporting
    • Continuous Improvement System (Customer Concerns, Internal/External PPM, Supplier Quality & Delivery, Sort Costs Internal/3rd party, Chrysler LPA's, Chrysler Paynter, Scrap Cost)
    • Customer Concerns
  • IATF 16949 Management Representative:
    • Schedule and maintenance of internal audits
    • Coordinated external audits
  • Information Management of Access Databases
  • Green Belt
  • APQP Team Member
  • Backup ISO-14001 EMS Representative
  • Contribute to the plant Lean/Cost Reduction program
  • Provide support to the Plant Manager as required
  • Internal Auditor IATF 16949 and ISO 14001

Education and Qualifications:

  • Four years of College or University Degree in Business, Quality, Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Two to five years' experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and exercise judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills, interpersonal skills and personal development skills.
  • Experience in a variety of basic operation disciplines: Manufacturing, Quality, Process / Tooling and Shop Floor Supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and oral skills in order to effectively communicate with internal and external customers (i.e. Spanish and English writing and verbal skills).
  • Strong skills/knowledge in budgets, including sales, inventory and freight.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Work Environment/Work Conditions:

  • Professional Office Environment.
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor.
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required.
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury.
