Job Description
Primary Function of Position:

Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures highly complex mechanical systems (including instruments and accessories) for use in surgery. The New Product Verification Department is devoted to assuring safe, reliable, and effective products that exceed patient, surgeon, and hospital expectations. The department plays a vital role in product and process quality, in new product development and production, and in the quality of da Vinci Surgical System product lines, including endoscopic instrumentation, and supporting accessories.

The Supervisor, Lab Operations will lead a team of dedicated individuals within new product development that perform testing to assure quality of new designs and identify issues related to new designs and processes. Additionally, the supervisor will be responsible for coordinating maintenance and repairs of the test lab and equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute supervisory functions for lab technicians, including:
    • Timecard approval and time off coordination
    • Development plans, performance reviews, raises, and bonus determinations
    • Enforcing adherence to lab safety procedures, department operating procedures and work instructions
  • Determine project test scheduling and technician project allocation
  • Coordinate improvements/moves with Facilities department
  • Identify and execute efficiency improvements in the lab including layout optimization
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance of equipment
  • Determine equipment schedule/workload
  • Oversee inventory of test lab consumables and complete ordering to maintain supplies
  • Coordinate equipment/fixture calibration
  • Coordinate biohazard disposal
  • Participate in cross functional projects and execute on assigned tasks
  • Analyze, trend and present appropriate lab metrics and escalate when appropriate.
  • Report performance metrics.
Qualifications
Skill/Job Requirements:

Required:

  • Three to Five years individual contributor experience with at least one year prior management or project management experience (Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor personnel
  • Demonstrated understanding of (or aptitude to) understand product development lifecycles, design change and document change control, process verification and validation methodologies in a medical device environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be a quick learner and understand complex products and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, multi-task, and handle tasks with competing priorities effectively
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills
  • Change agent with energy, passion, and enthusiasm to drive change
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills in the context of reports, business correspondence, procedures
  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Ability to think strategically, working with key stakeholders to resolve resource allocation issues
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Windows operating system and Microsoft Office

Preferred:
  • 1-2+ years relevant experience in a medical device company, or equivalent regulated industry
  • Demonstrated interest in medical devices, surgery, and the medical field
  • Familiarity with medical device reprocessing equipment
  • Experience with Agile/ACCS and SAP or other electronic documentation systems
  • Experience with electronic purchasing system

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $129,600 USD - $186,400 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $110,100 USD - $158,500 USD
