The YMCA of the North's grant-funded Health Coach Training & Development Program includes full tuition plus compensation for class and training time to equip participants to become a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC). 18 years of age or older
Identify as multicultural (i.e., race, ethnicity/heritage/culture, national origin/ birthplace, first language, LGBTQ+)
Have an associate degree OR 60 college credits OR 4,000 hours of work experience in any field (i.e., approximately 2 years full-time)
Availability and commitment to the duration of the program, August 1, 2025 through March 31, 2026.

Summary:
This grant-funded opportunity provides the trainee with the required training to become a health coach (via a health coach training program partner), as well as support to complete 50 practicum sessions to be eligible to sit for the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) certification examination. This experience encompasses specialty educational training that will allow the transfer of acquired competencies/skills into future employment opportunities.
Essential Functions:

Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with YMCA values, code of conduct and other policies and procedures.
Performs duties and responsibilities as outlined for the task or projects assigned (see the Learning Agreement).
Participates in training and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
Communicates with identified training supervisor reporting on participation and progress, proactively asking questions, making recommendations regarding training and overall program, etc.
Obtains feedback from training supervisor to enhance competency/skill development and overall training/internship experience.

Relationships:
This position reports to the Product Executive for Health and Wellbeing Coaching who reports to the Senior Vice President of Product Growth. The incumbent will participate in periodic meetings and may interact with additional staff to complete the training.
Qualifications:
Required:

Must be a part-time or exempt employee at YMCA of the North.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
An associate degree or 60-college credits or 4,000 hours (approximately two years) of work experience.
Identify as multicultural (i.e., race; ethnicity, heritage, culture; national origin/birthplace; first language; LGBTQ+).
Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and videoconferencing.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Commitment to fulfill scheduled hours to accomplish assigned duties and tasks.
Willingness to learn and ask questions to enhance the development process.

Preferred:

An associate degree and/or 4,000 hours (approximately two years) of work experience in a related field.
At least one year of experience working with multicultural individuals and/or communities.
Any additional credentialing in the holistic or integrative health and wellbeing arena.
Training and/or experience in trauma-informed care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands:

Ability to occasionally travel to local meeting locations (although most meetings will be virtual)
General office work demands

Additional Notes:
This job description represents the major functions of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The incumbent is also responsible for taking direction from the Community as Medicine Training Program (provided by Open Source Wellness, our health coach training program partner), their supervisor, manager or designated representatives in completing projects or performing duties deemed necessary for incumbent success.
This position includes training tuition and a stipend. Tuition for the health coach training program is grant funded and will be paid to our NBHWC-approved training program partner by the YMCA of the North. The incumbent will also be paid by YMCA of the North to participate in the training.
