Buyer/Planner (Finance)

Your Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Buyer/Planner to manage procurement, production planning, and supplier relationships across our Houston and China operations. This role ensures timely order processing, cost-effective purchasing, and seamless coordination with internal departments to meet delivery expectations and optimize supply chain performance. Position is currently on a hybrid schedule; however, qualified candidates must be flexible to work any days of the week at our northwest Houston site.

Responsibilities:
  • Commit to delivery dates for customer orders and ensure timely order processing.
  • Interface daily with customer service to align order expectations.
  • Quote lead times on all products for the Customer Service team.
  • Procure necessary supplies, materials, and equipment to support operations.
  • Review requisitions, liaise with vendors, and evaluate bids and contracts.
  • Develop production schedules based on engineering plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Production, Engineering, Shipping, and Accounting to address supply, quality, and logistical challenges.
  • Resolve supplier issues related to over shipments, shortages, discrepancies, obsolete materials, invoices, rework, and scrap.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers as needed.
  • Prepare RFQs and secure competitive bids to achieve optimal cost efficiency.
  • Expedite materials and supplies when necessary to meet company demands.
  • Track and ensure delivery and inventory performance objectives align with operational goals.
  • Lead cost-saving initiatives to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Coordinate with the Production department to execute revenue plans.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 compliance within the functional area.
  • Be flexible and adaptable when working with China operations personnel, including occasional after-hours collaboration.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business management, engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in supply chain management (production planning and/or procurement).
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing, particularly in high-mix/low-volume production, preferred.
  • Background in working with overseas suppliers managing electronics, PCBAs, fabricated, machined, or cast metal products.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP Certification is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse international population
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.
