Content Strategy Manager, Enthusiast & Wellness Group

Hearst Magazines' Enthusiast & Wellness Group is looking for a creative and talented Content Strategy Manager to help execute our strategy across our Reviews and Deals & Trends teams. This role has the potential to support several brands within the group — Runner's World, Bicycling, BestProducts.com, Popular Mechanics, Biography.com, Men's Health, and Women's Health. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about digital media, with an acute understanding of evolving consumer behaviors (especially in the commerce space), and the ever-changing digital landscape. Our goal is to expand our reach by diversifying traffic across various platforms, attracting new audiences, and cultivating a loyal following. From space nerds to home DIYers, tech aficionados to science enthusiasts, fitness lovers to new runners, you'll be able to recommend content creation ideas that help and attract our niche audiences each and every day.

In the Enthusiast & Wellness Group, we strive for a healthy variety of traffic, whether that's from traditional Organic Search, Google Discover, Direct, Apple News, and more. We're seeking a confident and data-driven content strategist to help drive our commerce business forward through thinking outside of the traditional SEO landscape — we want someone to consider content recommendations that support these various platforms. Additionally, your familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools will be instrumental in shaping an effective content strategy.

This role sits in New York, NY, and works closely with a variety of departments, including Editorial, Performance Marketing, and Central Commerce. Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of clips.

Here's what you'll be responsible for:

  • Conduct ongoing keyword research that aligns with brand missions and business goals. We're looking for someone who thinks outside of search traffic metrics and understands the impact of content ideas on the group's revenue.
  • Optimize all content, from product reviews to supporting content, and work closely with our editors to ensure the user experience meets the search need. We use data to back all content recommendations.
  • Audit content for revenue success, performance, and user engagement using a variety of data analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Search Console, and Looker. We're a team that interprets failures as much as successes, so comfort with testing and iterating to improve efficiency is imperative.
  • Work directly in our CMS optimizing critical fields, grouping content, internal linking, assisting in user pathing, and improving formats.
  • Monitor search rankings, traffic, and impact for our priority reviews and supporting content. As the SERP continues to change, we expect this person to communicate developments and shifts to all impacted parties, positive and negative.
  • Keep a pulse on our brands' industries for news opportunities and emerging trends, and pitch those ideas to edit, backed by data, for potential coverage.
  • Stay abreast of algorithm updates and guide our teams through the impact on search for our brands.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience recommending content ideas, with a focus on commerce
  • Capable of analyzing data and transforming it into actionable editorial strategies. Proficiency in tools like Google Analytics, Looker, and Search Console is essential.
  • Strong ability to manage content schedules and deliverables, and keep projects on track with targeted deadlines
  • Must be able to collaborate and foster positive relationships with colleagues
  • Skilled in delivering constructive and actionable feedback that motivates and inspires writers
  • Working knowledge of SEO tools like SEMRush, Keywords Everywhere, and Google Trends
  • Extremely detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in the topics our brands cover
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience working directly in a CMS
  • Availability to work during major shopping holidays.
  • You possess a kind and supportive demeanor.

The base salary for this role is $88k-90k. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

This position is based in the NYC office a minimum of 3 days a week. No remote flexibility.

Hearst Magazines is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
