Research Associate - COPH (Finance)
The principal duties and obligations of the appointment are to conduct research in accordance with the needs of Dr. Adams' research program and to generate data that will result in significant articles published in highly ranked, peer-reviewed research journals and grant writing.Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution with demonstrated record of academic research achievement, or professional qualifications in the field of specialization above those which would be equivalent to the highest degree.Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Research Associate.
Additional Minimum Qualifications:
At least five years relevant research experience.
Familiarity with P. Falciparum biology, DNA mutgagenesis, and transgenic parasite production.
Demonstrated expertiese through peer-reviewed research publications in molecular biology and RNAseq applications in malaria research.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in moleculoar biology, computational biology, or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in applying for competitive extraumural funding.
Ability to serve as "key personnel" for NIH research grant applications.
Lead development of new NIH research grant applications.

Initiate, plan and deliver novel malaria molecular experimental projects for publications and presentations at international scientific conferences.
Coordinate and manage a research team of students and staff to meet collaborative research goals for novel and ongoing molecular experimental projects pertaining to Plasmodium parasite mutagenesis and analysis (i.e. parasite genotyping cloning, transfections, knock-out with CRISPR or GlmS, protein expression and production, and antibody production.
In vivo immunological assays in mice (i.e. mosquito challenges and live animal imaging) and parasite transmission blocking assays (requiring mosquito feeding and midgut and salivary gland dissections).
Supervise the GHIDR insectary and its staff. Oversee the maintenance of insectary equipment and University, State, and Federal permits. Maintains USF safety protocols through Biosafety, EHS, and any other entities.
Provide expert advice and perform cutting-edge parasite biology research for high-impact publications in peer-reviewed research journals and for future funding applications.
Up to 50 percent FTE may be spent developing independent research grants to exploit these data and methods. Submit as principal investigator one or more applications for a major NIH independent-investigator research grant (e.g., U01, R01, R21 ). Serve as primary writing assistant to Dr. John Adams in preparation of one or more competitive renewal or new NIH R01 grant applications on which incumbent will serve as key personnel.
