The African American Studies Department (AAS) at the University of Houston is hiring a non-tenure track Professor of Practice beginning Fall 2025 for a one-year appointment.

Duties include teaching (75%) and supervision (25%). The successful candidate must have college-level teaching experience with a preference for a candidate who has experience teaching Introduction to African American Studies. The successful candidate will also teach the internship course, which includes supervision of students. The typical course load is a 4-4 or its equivalent, but one course release will be granted to supervise.

A doctorate in African American Studies or related area in African American Studies is preferred.

Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate. All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
