Head Swim Team Coach (Creative Design)



This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the swim team at the North Lexington Family YMCA and for ensuring the safety of participants while operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. This position will need to coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. In addition, off-deck responsibilities will include administrative and operational tasks vital to team management, growth, and culture. Office hours outside of practice and meet time may be up to 10 hours per week.
Must be available for practices weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Some travel to meets on weekends and regular office hour work required.
Qualifications
1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
2. Completion of high school diploma or equivalent
3. Two years of competitive coaching experience
4. Working knowledge of competitive teams
5. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
6. Personal computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office products, required.
7. Registered USA Swimming Coach preferred
8. Experience with Team Unify, Meet Manager, and similar platforms.
9. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards. Includes, but not limited to: CPR/AED, YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving, YMCA Lifeguarding.

1. Is regularly required to talk and hear.

4. Needs specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
5. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical activity and adapt to changing working environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers and copiers. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position will work in an office and in a pool environment. This position works a standard work week, but will frequently work early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Travel will be required for competitive swim meets including out-of-the-area and overnight travel.
Essential Functions
1. The coach will help participants to grow in sportsmanship, clarify value, appreciate diversity, become better leaders and supporters, develop and strengthen relationships.
2. You will lead practices, manage coaching staff, oversee meets and clinics, and create a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment for all team members.
3. Hire, supervise, train and direct assistant coaches.
4. In conjunction with supervisor, prepare season training plan/themes/focus and develop team events.
5. Organize team registration, rosters, meet entries, and lineups. Maintain proper records, team lists, and reports as needed.
6. Maintain open communication pathways with families.
7. Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
8. Monitor and maintain equipment.
9. Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and YMCA/USA Swimming standards.
10. Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
11. Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
12. Communicate with the team and staff information regarding team activities, meets, goals and daily training plans.
13. Develop and execute the practice plan.
14. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
15. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the YMCA as embodied in the mission statement and values.
