Executive Director, Center for Faculty Development (Finance)

Description:

The Executive Director for the UHCL Center for Faculty Development (CFD) is responsible for the overall professional development of UHCL faculty. Charged with developing instructional programming to support all levels of faculty in support of teaching, research, service, career development, and work/life balance. The Executive Director effectively communicates with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community; provides a collaborative, supportive environment to promote faculty development capacity through faculty-centered programs and initiatives and partners with multiple offices on campus to provide these services.

Duties:
  • Develops and implements programs in all modes of delivery to enhance effectiveness of all UHCL faculty. Identifies and plans relevant faculty development events, including internal and external guest facilitators. Implements programs which align with current research on effective professional development for teaching, research, service (including academic leadership), career development, and work-life balance. This includes being a consultant for individual faculty.
  • Continually evaluates emerging best practices in educational development and determine applicability to the University. Communicates these best practices to faculty.
  • Manages CFD space and resources. Acts as signature authority on accounts for the CFD. Budgets best use of funds for faculty development and communicates budget priorities.
  • Supervises personnel associated with CFD including staff, Faculty Fellows, and other leaders of CFD programming.
  • Critically assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of center programming and initiatives.
  • Partner with campus departments to serve in support of the planning and execution of formal leadership development programs built for faculty and staff, as needed.
  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, and strategic planning at the University and performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Doctoral degree in a discipline corresponding to UHCL degree programs.
  2. Ten years of higher education teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Progressive experience including leadership in a higher education position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of pedagogical (or andragogical) best practices.
  • Knowledge of faculty career development and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of best practices in professional development for higher education faculty.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel and in electronic conference software such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
  • Skills in Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to work with multiple offices towards a solution and to consult with faculty and help solve individual challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.
