Traffic Signal Technician Trainee (Finance)



The County of Riverside's Transportation Land Management Agency - Transportation Department seeks a Traffic Signal Technician Trainee to join the Highway Operations Division in Riverside.
The selected candidate will assist with a variety of electrical repairs to and installations of traffic signal systems and highway lighting units located throughout Riverside County. Additionally, the Traffic Signal Technician Trainee will maintain routine daily records, track all used and unused equipment, and generate usage reports by location.

Candidates must have experience installing and repairing electrical or electronic wiring systems. In addition, competitive candidates will have experience with Microsoft Excel, generating reports, inventory, construction, and/or traffic signal work.

This position follows a 4/10 schedule, consisting of four 10-hour shifts, Monday - Thursday.
Please note: This position requires an on-call rotation in which employees are required to respond to the work site within 2 hours of notification. This position is located in Riverside, and calls would be within Riverside County.

Incumbents are eligible to promote to the Traffic Signal Technician upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.

The County of Riverside Transportation & Land Management Agency (TLMA) is the umbrella agency for six county departments which includes The Transportation Department.

Mission Statement..."To provide the citizens of Riverside County with increasingly more courteous, efficient, and cost-effective services dedicated to improving the quality of life and orderly economic development by the provision and management of a safe, efficient and convenient transportation system, enhancing the mobility of people, goods and services within the integrated Agency activities.• Check, service, troubleshoot, and repair traffic signal controllers to insure correct timing and operation, make minor adjustments and repairs, or replace controller when necessary.

• Check and repair intersection and sign lighting, and test and replace traffic signal lamps; paint and repair signal and lighting hardware; pour and finish concrete bases for traffic signals.

• Set traffic counters to obtain traffic volumes, speeds and vehicle classifications; use computer software to obtain data.

• Perform a variety of other electrical repairs and installations; maintain routine daily records and prepare reports as necessary.Experience: Two years of performing semi-skilled building or industrial trades work which included responsibility for installing and repairing electrical or electronic wiring systems and equipment. (Completion of course work from an accredited college or university with major coursework in electronics or a closely related field to the assignment may substitute for the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of the required full time experience.)

Knowledge of: The principles of electrical circuitry and electronics as they relate to traffic signal and lighting equipment; the tools, materials, and methods used in installing and maintaining traffic signal equipment; state and other standards governing placement of traffic signals, signs, and street lighting.

Ability to: Understand traffic lighting installation plans and specifications and inspect construction projects for compliance; use computers and software programs; maintain detailed inventory records and prepare reports; train others in the operation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signal equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work after hours and on weekends on emergency repairs.

Other Requirements:
License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License or higher is required in order to operate a county vehicle and drive to and from various county locations. Possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License or obtain within six months from the date of hire. The incumbent will be required to drive a county vehicle throughout the County of Riverside.

Current County employees are not required to provide a DMV driver's record.

This position has been designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required.

Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 75 pounds and work at heights of at least 45 feet. The Traffic Signal Technician Trainee will repair and install components of traffic signal systems and highway lighting units requiring lifting heavy components and working at elevated heights.This recruitment is open to all candidates.
