Laboratory Assistant at Phelps Medical Group, FT Mon-Friday 8a-5:00p no weekends or holidays (Food Services)



Summary/Objective:
The Laboratory Assistant obtains blood samples and analyze waive testing for the purpose of clinical laboratory testing. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
Essential Functions:
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
Greets patients promptly and courteously.Identifies the patient correctly and explains the test procedure with information appropriate for age and learning abilities.Performs venous, capillary and heel stick procedures and prepares these specimens for processing. Uses proper technique in association with the age and patients condition.Perform waived testing (i.e. Strep screens, influenza, urine dipstick, etc.)Follows appropriate protocol in processing specimens. Know what container/tube corresponds to what test and any special procedures needed to be done. Label each tube appropriately and correctly.Lab Send outs: Order and prepare specimen for send out. As results are received and distribute results to ordering provider.May be required to obtain DOT drug screen collection certification and Breath Alcohol CertificationMaintains patient confidentiality at all times.Performs clerical duties.Assists in lab supplies maintenance by monitoring inventory and ensuring that key supplies are available.Provide assistance to the techs if needed.Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of areas of work.Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all areas of responsibilities.Demonstrates competency annually in assigned areas of work.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities, supervises, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, employees the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works with explosive, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification (I), as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.
