Geology Manager (Finance)



Position Description

Kinder Morgan, Inc. is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and over 150 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, refined petroleum products, crude oil, condensate, CO 2 and other products, and our terminals trans load and store liquid commodities including petroleum products, ethanol and chemicals, and bulk products, including petroleum coke, metals and ores

Primary purpose:

  • This position is responsible for leading all geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, and geo-technicians to drive the successful development of CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) projects through strategic oversight and technical expertise

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Lead, direct and supervise a team of geoscientists and geo-technicians to develop EOR and CCS projects from scoping to project approval, execution, and surveillance
  • Support the business unit assets by providing geologic oversight and strategies for both active and future projects
  • Oversee the analysis of geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to characterize reservoir viability for EOR and CCS implementation
  • Assist BU assets to manage project planning, budgets, and timelines to ensure efficient project execution
  • Review and validate subsurface models, risk assessments, and monitoring plans working with Reservoir and Production engineers to ensure project success
  • Communicate technical findings, project updates, and recommendations to senior management, regulators, and stakeholders
  • Assure that schedules are defined, reviewed by asset teams requesting the work and approved by the Director
  • Communicate with Reservoir and Production groups concerning operational, cost, risk and schedule issues.
  • Handle special project assignments as required.
  • Demonstrate and consistently apply the highest level of leadership in Environmental, Health and Safety standards, practices and policies.
Be willing to travel to the field for project implementation and interaction with field personnel.

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:
Education:

  • MS or Ph.D in geoscience with 15 years of oil and gas industry experience

Experience / specific knowledge:
  • 15 plus years in the oil and gas industry

Certifications, licenses, registrations:
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Competencies, skills, and abilities:
  • Familiarity with oil and gas operations.
  • Permian Basin experience
  • Gulf Coast experience

Physical demands:
  • Predominantly office environment.
  • Ability to communicate with others and give input/instruction orally.

Working conditions:
  • Primarily office
  • Availability after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed

Other responsibilities:
  • Special projects as required.
