Manager, Creative Operations (Finance)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Manager, Creative Operations leads Design Operations for all categories within SC Johnson: Air Care (AC), Home Storage (HS), Home Cleaning (HC), and Pest Control (PC). The Creative Operations Manager will be responsible for managing a team, overseeing execution excellence, and ensuring packaging graphics are delivered with quality, speed, and consistency across all categories. This role acts as a critical bridge between Design, Graphics, Marketing, R&D, and Pre-Media/Production partners, ensuring the seamless translation of design intent into production-ready assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership & Team Management: Manage a team of design operations specialists, providing guidance, coaching, and development. Set priorities and allocate resources across categories to meet business needs
  • Production Oversight: Oversee execution of packaging design across all SC Johnson categories, ensuring creative intent is maintained through to final production. Act as escalation point for cross-category production challenges
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Design, Graphics, Marketing, Legal, and Pre-Media teams, driving alignment and ensuring efficient workflows across internal and external stakeholders
  • Workflow Coordination: Lead end-to-end project execution across multiple categories, identifying synergies, streamlining processes, and driving consistency in output
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee creative layout reviews on production dielines, ensuring accuracy in specifications (e.g., brand color, bleed, and regulatory elements). Lead pre-flight checks and collaborate with vendors to resolve issues
  • Technical Oversight: Provide expertise on tools, print feasibility, substrates, and packaging formats. Champion best practices across flexo, gravure, and offset printing
  • Asset & File Management: Ensure robust asset management systems are followed, files meet regulatory and brand requirements, and digital assets are stored and maintained correctly
  • Digital Asset Management: Ensure design files are consistently organized, version-controlled, archived, and compliant with internal DAM protocols and brand governance

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in packaging design, production or design operations in a CPG environment
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Deep understanding of packaging production processes, prepress, and file readiness
  • Experience working with 3rd party creative, pre-media, and print vendors
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), digital asset management, and workflow tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify creative or production errors
  • Excellent organization skills with ability to manage multiple projects across categories
  • Effective communicator with ability to manage up, across, and with external partners
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage ambiguity
  • Solid understanding of industry standards: color systems (CMYK vs RGB), file types, resolution requirements, etc.
  • Knowledge of various packaging substrates and print processes (paperboard, film, aerosol, flexo, gravure, offset)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time, typical work hours, 1st shift, M-F
  • Occasional travel to Chicago office
  • Office work environment - remote work available once a week for eligible employees
  • This role is eligible for domestic relocation
