Driver, Poult Haul (Transportation)



Poult Haul Driver (CDL Class A)

Full-Time | Class A CDL Required | Seasonal Evening/Day Shift

Position Summary

We are seeking a safety-focused CDL driver to transport live poultry from farm to farm. This role plays an essential part in ensuring animal welfare, food safety, and efficient operations. Drivers must be able to work seasonal schedules that may include weekends, holidays, and longer shifts during peak demand periods.

Who You'll Work With

This position reports directly to the Transportation Manager and works closely with the live haul team and live production operations. There are no supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate commercial motor vehicles safely while transporting live poultry to and from farms.
  • Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
  • Secure loads prior to transport and monitor animal welfare during transport.
  • Complete required documentation accurately (trip logs, weights, equipment reports, etc.).
  • Conduct DOT-required pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers.
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including assisting with poultry handling when unloading.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL and current medical card.
  • Minimum age 21 with at least 1 year of verifiable driving experience (3 years preferred).
  • Knowledge of DOT, federal, and state transportation regulations.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
  • Previous live poultry hauling experience preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain and cold.
  • Sit and drive for extended periods and climb in/out of truck cabs multiple times during a shift.
  • Handle live turkeys weighing up to 5 pounds.
  • Open and close coop doors, help guide birds when unloading, and insert fiberglass panels during heavy rain to protect poultry from spray.
  • Pump fuel and perform other tasks around the truck yard as required.

Safety Commitment

  • Strict adherence to DOT, federal, and company safety policies is required.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided and must be used as directed.
