BioSciences at Rice is home to undergraduate and doctoral degree programs in Biochemistry & Cell Biology and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. We are investigating fundamental properties of living organisms and their impacts on the future quality of life on Earth.
The Faculty Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the academic and operational mission of the department by providing high-level administrative support with a strong emphasis on faculty affairs. This position is responsible for coordinating key faculty processes, including recruitment, searches, promotion and tenure, and faculty data management. The Faculty Coordinator ensures accurate and timely maintenance of faculty records, oversees departmental reporting related to faculty appointments and awards, and manages a variety of academic and departmental events, including faculty seminars.
Working closely with the Department Chair and Executive Administrator, the Faculty Coordinator also provides financial and operational support by monitoring expenditures, managing travel and logistics for visiting faculty, and maintaining departmental compliance with university policies and procedures.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
The role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders across all levels of the university. Ideal candidates will have experience in an academic or administrative setting, demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Calendar, and be capable of managing multiple priorities with accuracy and professionalism. Experience with faculty lifecycle management systems such as Interfolio is a plus, particularly in coordinating faculty appointments, reviews, and promotion and tenure processes.
Workplace Requirements:
This position may be offered as a hybrid role after the probationary period, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
