Postdoctoral Scholar Research (Finance)



The Division of Surgical Research at Heart Institute, Morsani School of Medicine, University of South Florida is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow focused on Angiotensin II induced hypertension, aneurysm, and related cellular and molecular biology. A fully equipped laboratory is available in a state-of- the-art facility with access to advanced core resources. (https://health.usf.edu/medicine/heart-institute)

The candidate will be involved in the design and execution of mouse, cell culture, and molecular experiments. The candidate will analyze, summarize, and organize data. The applicant must be highly motivated with some experience in cell culture and mouse handling. Mouse surgical experience desired.

Candidate will study molecular and signaling mechanisms of vascular remodeling with hypertension, as well as development of aneurysms. The studies the candidate will perform include experiments with cell culture models and animal models of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, they will study if angiotensin II-dependent hypertension and aneurysms can be prevented in mice with Pyruvate Kinase Type M2 manipulations. Candidate will also study the cellular mechanism in cultured vascular smooth muscle cells. The job also includes planning experiments, analyzing the results, writing abstracts for conferences, presenting the findings, and drafting manuscripts under supervision of the Pl.Doctoral degree from an accredited institution and appropriate experience and training within a selected area of specialization. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow.

  • In discussion with supervisor(s), conducts experiments, and analysis according to established research protocols, and research methodology.
  • Develops new research protocols to carry out established research objectives.
  • Participates in the design of research protocols to achieve the scientific objectives to allow quantitative and qualitative evaluation and interpretation of data obtained.
  • Collects and analyzes data using statistical methodologies and software.
  • Participates in interpretation of the results through conferences with supervisor(s), and other researchers.
  • Reviews/summarizes literature pertaining to research being conducted in the scientific area of interest.
  • Writes presentations, and manuscripts based on research performed.
  • Performs other duty as assigned.
