Primary Purpose:
The Process Engineer will report to the Director of Metal Making and be responsible for process control for Metal Making departments at both Pacific Cast Technologies, Inc. (PCT) and Selmet, Inc., both CPP Companies. This role is integral to ensuring the efficient and precise control of the metal making stream, which is crucial for achieving the desired properties and performance standards of titanium castings. The engineer will be responsible for optimizing and maintaining metal production, troubleshooting and improving metal making techniques, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. This position requires a deep understanding of titanium metallurgy, materials science, and advanced engineering practices to drive innovation and enhance the overall quality and efficiency of our production operations.

OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL LEVELS OF SKILL AND EXPERIENCE. Position may be classified as Engineer I, Engineer II or Senior Engineer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and control metal making operations, including chemistry, tensile, atmosphere, and dwell parameters, to ensure consistent and reliable results.
  • Ensure metal making processes adhere to internal and external quality standards, customer specifications, and industry regulations (e.g., ASTM, AMS, ISO).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of metal making processes, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and process control plans, ensuring they are up to date.
  • Ensure all metal making furnaces and related equipment are properly calibrated, maintained, and serviced to guarantee optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve process-related issues, defects, or inconsistencies in the metal making operation by conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and update process control documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process control plans for metal making.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen) to enhance the efficiency and reliability of metal making operations.
  • Responsible for metal making quality control within department, including being representative of the Metals department when corresponding with CPP's corporate quality team.
  • Maintain knowledge of specification requirements for both internal and external customers, collaborating with Quality department when necessary for any reviews or changes, and ensuring documentation is accurate as it relates to specifications.
  • Assist furnace FMEA team with reviews and any action items related to process control, including documenting change controls and completing SOP or work instruction updates.
  • Audit processes against work instructions and other documents to ensure internal compliance.
  • Communicate with vendors about existing or potential support equipment for metal making processes.
  • Review any incoming material changes or support equipment changes with Metals Planning.
  • Support Facilities in determining controls needs at furnace panel as they relate to the process for operators.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • B.S. degree in engineering or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and a familiarity with SQL
  • Proficient with use of statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or JMP
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work well with production employees, supervisors, managers and customers
  • Capable of performing statistical analysis and making data driven decisions
  • Ability to collect, record and transcribe data
  • Ability to present results in an industrial technical report format
  • Possess a high degree of organizational skill
  • Ability to work effectively and simultaneously on numerous projects
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation(s)

Preferred:
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience specifically in Titanium manufacturing
  • Familiarity the metallurgical properties; specifically Titanium

Working Conditions:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but will be exposed to higher noise levels when required to be in manufacturing areas.
  • The individual may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery, and vehicles when in the manufacturing areas.

Schedule:
  • Day Shift - Monday-Friday
  • Requires schedule flexibility, based on business needs
  • May be required to start early or work late in the day and/or possible off-shift and weekend hours may be required depending upon production needs.
