Your Next Career Opportunity – Managing Director, Tower Operations

The primary function of this position is to lead Site Management, including overseeing site operations to meet production goals, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining asset integrity. This position is also responsible for leading efforts to streamline operational processes, improve data quality, and enhance collaboration across leasing, engineering, and field teams to deliver exceptional customer outcomes. The Managing Director, Tower Operations combines technical expertise, operational excellence, and strategic oversight to ensure the successful integration and ongoing management of new lines of business.

What You Will Do – Primary Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Leadership

  • Implement strategic plans to integrate and support new and existing lines of business, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversees Network Engineering, NOC operations, and Site Management to deliver high-quality services, maintain SLAs, and drive operational excellence.
  • Streamline processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance asset integrity across the organization.
  • Lead efforts to support live networks, integrate new systems, and optimize data center operations, balancing innovation with reliability.

Technical and Operational Expertise

  • Manage the design, implementation, and optimization of network infrastructure to meet evolving business and customer needs.
  • Ensure the readiness and reliability of SBA's infrastructure, including live networks, data centers, and site operations.
  • Evaluate and adopt cutting-edge tools, technologies, and methodologies to maintain industry competitiveness and improve operational efficiency.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical and operational challenges, driving resolution and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Financial Oversight

  • Partner with internal teams, including leasing, engineering, IT, and operations support, to ensure seamless project execution and strategic alignment.
  • Oversee operational budgets, including CAPEX and OPEX, ensuring adherence to financial goals and timelines.
  • Collaborate across departments to enhance customer experience and operational delivery for all lines of business.
  • Monitor cost forecasts and provide regular updates to senior leadership on financial performance and resource allocation.

Compliance, Risk, and Performance Management

  • Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, safeguarding the integrity and reliability of SBA's assets.
  • Implement risk management strategies to protect critical infrastructure and support long-term business growth.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track success, identify opportunities for improvement, and maintain accountability.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Work with Talent Acquisition to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ a talented and diverse group of high-performing team members.
  • Provide oversight and direction to team members in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, including overseeing new team member onboarding and providing career development planning and growth opportunities.
  • Empower team members to take ownership of their job and goals. Delegate responsibilities as needed and provide routine constructive feedback on performance.
  • Create a culture that is consistent with the organization's focus on team member engagement, and that aligns with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Lead team members using a performance management and development-focused approach to assist in goal setting, two-way feedback, and performance development planning.
  • Lead team members to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.

What You'll Need – Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field required
  • A Masters degree in relevant discipline is preferred but not required
    • And 10+ years or leadership experience in operations, network engineering, or telecommunications, including managing NOCs, data centers, and live network environments.
  • Proven track record of overseeing and optimizing large-scale, mission-critical operations involving diverse technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and enhance live networks, including microwave, DAS, and data center operations.
  • Experience with CAPEX and OPEX budget management, including cost control and financial reporting.
  • Prior experience driving operational efficiency and process improvement initiatives across multiple departments.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to anticipate challenges and devise innovative solutions.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to influence and align cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments while maintaining focus on quality and customer outcomes.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced understanding of:
    • Network Operations Center (NOC) management, including SLAs, KPIs, and escalation processes.
    • Data center technologies, infrastructure, and compliance.
    • Microwave Networks, including design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
    • Live network operations, including network monitoring, maintenance, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with key industry tools such as Nagios, NetBox, and Ivanti, and networking technologies like Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and risk management strategies for critical infrastructure.
  • Understanding of cross-functional collaboration with engineering, site management, and IT to align technical operations with business goals.
