Structural Engineer for Self-Perform (Finance)



Compensation Range
$118,000.00 - $196,000.00 Annual Salary

Job Description Summary:
The Structural Engineer helps to successfully design and deliver projects for the Self Perform group as part of a wider team of professional aligning to the project goals and the design intent from the Owner. Manage the design process, ensuring timely and quality design deliverables, and helping to manage the Owner's expectations. Design Managers are responsible for creating a strategic design plan and executing said plan to ensure a successful design phase and transition to construction.

Job Description:

  • Able to perform all essential Ass istant Precon struction Manager/Lead Estimator responsibilities.

  • Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of the design process from the initial design concept to the final design for construction including coordinating with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that the design meets contract requirements for scope, budget, and schedule .

  • Assist in hiring, training, and development of team members and/or project teams.

  • Assist in preparation of proposal and participate in interviews and client presentations as necessary.

  • Strategize with pursuit and preconstruction teams to identify appropriate level of design for pursuit pricing and ensure that design solutions are consistent with agreed approach.

  • Assist with selecting A/E teams, negotiating agreement and fees. Coordinate Design-Build and Design- Assist contract terms and conditions with internal and external teams.

  • Develop A/E, Consultants, Design-Assist and Design-Build trade partner RFP's .

  • Coordinate design services between firms to eliminate gaps/overlaps in scope/services. Manage third party design reviews.

  • Define, schedule and monitor design deliverables on design build projects or other forms of delivery.

  • Interface with Project teams to develop expectations for content of design documents at various stages of design, establish content quality and define key milestones/metrics to verify expectations will be met.

  • Monitor compliance with contract/client requirements, schedule, as well as code requirements.

  • Identify critical decisions and needed decision-makers. Conduct Owner design reviews, obtain client direction and approval; provide internal direction as necessary to facilitate achieving project objectives .

  • Coordinate and manage design reviews and milestone submittal reviews ; b ack-check design documents to confirm agreed revisions are implemented.

  • Assist and/or lead constructability reviews with project teams, providing technical reviews of building components/systems to reduce cost, or address procurement or constructability issues.

  • Review design progress to prevent cost and scope creep.

  • Host Value Management sessions as needed to look for cost effective material selections and details to maintain or improve the project budget or GMP .

  • Coordinate responsibilities for VDC and together develop workflows to support the use of BIM; develop and implement project-specific BIM execution plans.

  • Assist project teams in resolving design-related issues with subcontractors, including design-build/design assist subcontractors.

  • Facilitate communication of cost management needs between the Designer, Design-Assist and Design-Build trade partners, project, and estimating teams during all phases.

  • Assist in development of Value Analysis and execution of cost management approach with the owner and design team.

  • Develop and maintain relations with clients, subcontractors, and design-build construction partners; identify appropriate partners for future pursuits.

  • Complete other responsibilities and activities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements or Experience Requirements

  • Structural Engineering Degree is required

  • 7 -10 years of field construction management experience

  • DBIA Certified Credential, preferred

  • Prior experience with the design build delivery process; understands design, construction, and building operations.

  • Fundamental knowledge of construction contracts and project accounting

  • Understanding of all project management control systems (scheduling, cost control, procurement and estimating)

  • Experience with green design, construction techniques and use of sustainable materials in construction

  • Demonstrated ability in design-build project management and delivery.

  • Process oriented, with excellent facilitator and communication capabilities.

  • Understanding of the technical aspects of all building systems .

  • Strong problem solver who can build consensus and to direct teams to positive outcomes for the project.

  • Expert skills using AutoCAD and Revit

  • Experience in Virtual Design, Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software on construction projects .

  • Licensed Professional Engineer ( Structural PE) in the state of California

Drywall Needs

1 . Demonstrate a t horough understanding of the light gauge steel framing and provide references for that experience. Be able to stamp drawings an d details for all types of metal stud framing work .

2 . Understanding of the various elements of the W ork , work with our team to develop practical detailing with the aid of detailers, virtual designers etc.

3 . Ability to develop complete shop drawings for submission to SOR and gain approval for the engineering contained within.

4 . Demonstrate a solid u nderstanding of load bearing steel stud systems and integration of these systems to all types of structures.

Concrete Needs

1. Design and stamp reshore and/or backshore drawings.

2. Perform s horing and reshoring inspection s .

3. Prepare c oncrete formwork and shoring design , including the required statics analysis.

4. Review, sign and seal existing formwork and shoring designs .

5 . Prepare Elevator Crash Deck design s.

6 . Provide analysis and design for Equipment Anchorage / Post-installed dowel s.

7 . Prepare Temporary Foundation Design s, including man- hoist, tower crane, deadmen , etc.

8 . Perform analysis and calculations for Value Engineering or Product Substitution requests
